Tips For Career Security

If you want to avoid getting the pink slip then pay attention to these career tips:

  • Keep both sides happy. Not only do you need to keep your players happy but you also need to know what your boss expects from you and your team. Keeping both sides happy is critical for your future.
  • Show signs that you are winning or are about to win. Let’s face it, coaches are measured on wins. Be able to show how those wins are coming in the future during a down year.
  • Motivate. People who are bored, frustrated, or burned out won’t do their best work. Your best staff will leave and your worst will stay on past their expiration date and a bad staff is never good for your career.
  • Stay connected. Get to know influential community members. Network with everyone in the school’s administration. Too many times coaches isolate themselves and that makes it easier for them to drop the hammer.
  • Brag some. Let people know what you’ve done and what you’re capable of. A certain amount of bragging is acceptable and even admirable if you talk about what your team has achieved.
